Here in Austin, locality and artistry are really celebrated and I join in that. I love buying local when I can, especially when I am buying directly from the artisan. So when I was invited a couple of weeks ago to attend the opening of Design Lab Austin, I got very excited!
A collective of designers, vendors, and artists are sharing a beautiful space at the Oasis. It feels much like a market as you stroll through all of the wares. This is especially true with the wall of windows streaming natural light. Where else can you find a combo like this?
Here are a couple of my favorites:
United We Art: these guys rock! They sell t-shirts and so much more. You pick your design, either hanging or made as you wait, and along with that t-shirt, you receive a bag with a second. This is a charitable gift for you to pay forward. Yep. They want to engage communities in philanthropy while producing art and creating a business. That’s a triple win!
Striped Shirt: this idea has made me smile since I met the owner Laura Beck a few years ago. Petite but a lover of sports, she wanted to create t-shirts that celebrated team colors but flattered different shapes. In other words, she didn’t want to get lost in a big boxy men’s t-shirt. Been there, done that. Take a look:
And who doesn’t want to shop with a view like this?
So check them out and tell them Star Traci sent you!
