Hard to believe, but in three short years,(yes, three! Did you feel your screen shake as I shiver?!?!) my oldest child will be driving. I can’t even imagine! But it’s comforting knowing that there are programs like Ford Driving Skills for Life to teach young drivers good habits and keep them safe on the roads. Best part – it’s coming to Houston soon!
Ford Driving Skills for Life is a free hands-on training program for newly permitted and licensed drivers that will be in Houston on April 22 and 23 at NRG Stadium. This is a fun and free event, but will teach teen drivers some serious skills behind the wheel! Some sobering statistics: in Houston and across the country, vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among teens. The Texas Highway Safety Office says in 2016 there were 118 teen driver fatalities and 5,898 teen driver injuries resulting from 83,278 total crashes involving teen drivers. It’s a jungle out there!
Seriously! I imagine the Goofy Motormania when I envision Sonny-Bunny as a driver. Remember this…
None of that, please!
No Goofy Teenage Driving Here!
Ford Driving Skills for Life focuses on the issues and obstacles drivers face that cause crashes including vehicle handling, hazard recognition, speed and space management, and distractions like texting. It will also discuss the dangers of impaired driving and offer participants the use of Ford’s drugged and drunk driving simulator suits.
Again, it’s free, but you must register your teen drivers online ASAP –it’s filling up fast! The afternoon session on Saturday, April 22 is full, but there is still space in the morning session. On Sunday, April 23, there are still several openings in morning and afternoon. It’s easy to sign up – just go to this link.
Believe me, my son will be attending the skills class in two years! Until then, I highly recommend it to my Houston friends with teens!
