Shining the "Star"-light

The death of You-Know-Who made me think about my life now and the family that we have become. On September 10, 2001, I was a struggling actress living her New York dream alongside her photographer husband. The events of the next day so impacted my husband and I that our lives literally changed direction -- metaphorically and physically.Unable to help me from our home in Queens, my husband felt helpless. He wanted to do something (as so often men do) and he couldn't. So he decided that he didn't want to feel that way again. He wanted to contribute. So he joined the military and became Mr. Hero. And our crazy artistic life morphed into a military life.My husband has served in war. I am blessed to say that he had a relatively short tour but whether it is one day or 500, it is a painful slog through time. There are many who help make that time less painful. There are many who make the sacrifice feel worth it. Neighbors, families, and churches help feel the void. They hold hands and fill bellies, provide shoulders for tears and hands for holding. As a military wife and mother, I thank all those who provide such support to the families. But there are corporations that do much the same thing. So I am starting a new series. I will profile and shine a "Star"-light on these companies. I have even created a new Star-light page for it. Tomorrow will be my first post. If you have a company that you would like to share, please let me know. I think that companies that celebrate the sacrifice of Soldiers, Airmen, and Sailors should be celebrated themselves. So come back tomorrow and see whose Star-light is shining.
