What's Happening Review #1 -- Clear Point Wellness

When you hear the word chiropractor, what do you think? Do you think pops and cracks, twists and pushes? Well, so did I. Until...Last week in my What's Happening Wednesday post, I mentioned that I had a very special experience with holistic chiropractic care at Clear Point Wellness and Dr. Amanda Gibson. And let me tell you, this is not your daddy's chiropractor! At Clear Point, they practice gentle manipulation. Now you might be saying, "what is gentle manipulation?" and "does it work?"As an experience, I have had to think hard on how to answer. I could feel Dr. Gibson's hand on me, rubbing gently but with intention. There was no giant release like I have experienced in the past. Yet, I definitely felt something. It was as much an emotional experience as a physical one.Dr. Gibson began the session with a very detailed conversation about my past and present health issues. We discussed a car accident I had twenty years ago and what I do to myself everyday with two kids and a home. She was engaging and listened intently. She drove the conversation with enough questions but allowed me ample time to answer without feeling rushed. It was amazing how much I realized that I had forgotten until I started talking.I then laid face down on the table. She began placing her hands on my upper neck and on my skull. I know that I have learned that the skull is actually multiple bones but I never  think of it as a place to manipulate. Dr. Gibson gently worked around my ears and where my soft spot caved in after a life-threatening  illness when I was 18-months old.In the moment, I found myself experiencing a lot of emotions, ranging from anxiety to anger to sadness. It was similar to a Reiki experience I had many years ago. I was not in physical discomfort but these emotions were rolling out. Afterwards, I sat up and I felt that everything was crisper. I actually said, "I can see better!".Dr. Gibson works from the belief that everything is interconnected. Past physical traumas and past emotional traumas play equal parts in any pain that is carried. She explained that our bodies are constantly trying to accommodate and adapt to these traumas. Often these adaptations create more long-term trouble. It would seem my body has made a LOT of adaptations. So you might ask "would I do it again?" The short answer is yes. Dr. Gibson and I discussed my chronic illness at length and she felt that we could address some of the issues that I have been suffering. I can't fully explain what happened that morning and if it sounds a little New Age-y, it felt a little New Age-y. But it also was very real and I think that there is something to the holistic approach.I have been through every possible traditional medical test and I still suffer. Don't worry, though. I'm not abandoning that. I am not going to suddenly go cold turkey on all my pills. I am, however, going to add some holistic health options to my life. I want to start taking control of my body again and make sure that I am doing everything I can to be healthy. Gentle manipulation is only part of what they do at Clear Point. They also, work with diet and nutrition. In fact, I am going to write about these efforts as "The Path Back to Me". If you have something holistic that has worked for you, please share it with me. I am growing in this and I think Clear Point Wellness and Dr. Gibson will be a part of that growth,So, I do recommend Dr. Amanda Gibson and Clear Point Wellness. Please check out their site and Dr. Gibson's blog. Rebekah, at the front desk is lovely and they are happy to answer any questions you have. I definitely believe that they offer something truly special and star-worthy,
