Once and Only Once

Okay. A lot has happened in the news and I don't usually respond to much but there are a few things out there that are everywhere, so I am going to speak my feelings once and only once.First is the most obvious, Trayvon Martin. I chose not to speak before the legal system. While I was disturbed by everything I heard, I did not want to  participate in any rush to judgment or a conviction by social media. Now that charges have been presented, however, I will enter my one and only comment on it. The number of things wrong about what happened that night is too long to enumerate. An injustice of enormous magnitude took place and not just at the hands of Zimmerman. That boy sat unnecessarily in a morgue as a John Doe while the police had his phone. No effort to reach out to his family was made. This chills me almost as much as his being accosted and later killed for no reason. As a mother, I cannot get past the fact that he was someone's son and everyone's son deserves better than that. We must do better than that. So that is the only thing I shall say until the trial is over.On a lighter note, I am a SAHM and I have been a working mom. They are both hard. They both have challenges and they both have benefits. It is never an easy decision, especially if you have any financial needs. I am sure that both parties can agree on that. There is no need to replay these battles in the so-called "Mommy Wars" despite one pundit's unfortunate comment. I support all moms and their choices to do what's best for their family. BTW, this goes for cloth diapers, breast feeding. and natural childbirth. That is my one and only entry into the Wars and it is a call for peace. Finally, I don't talk about my politics often. Mostly, because I find that a written forum is so easily misunderstood or misconstrued. And this is place where I share my weirdness, worries and hopefully, some fun. It is not a place for strife. Sadly, it seems that in the world today, we judge all statements and opinions through the lens of their politics. "Well, she feels that way because she is a liberal". "There he goes again... he is a conservative", etc. etc. etc. I come from a family who are very different politically than I. We are equally well-intention-ed and lovers of our great country. We are not at war with each other and I wish the political rhetoric could reflect that. I do not believe that liberals are at war with religion and I do not believe that conservatives are at war with women. Our country is mighty and will survive whoever is president. During Bush, I heard people say that our country was being ruined and now I hear that Obama is ruining the country. Our country has survived many, many travesties, tragedies, and wars and it has definitely survived worse presidents than either of these two men. Words matter and I think we should use them more wisely. As this is an election year, I hope that is my one and only statement on that matter. There you go. Is there something that you have been dying to speak to once and for all. You're welcome to do so here, just please make sure it is kind and respectful. So
