Star Review #4 -- K5 Learning

So, a while back, my kiddos got the great opportunity to try out an on-line educational resource, K-5 Learning. They offered us a two-month membership. Unlike some websites which are often ad-driven and more entertainment than educational, this site is a highly structured, if fun, curriculum. My son utilized the 2nd grade level and my daughter played the Pre-K games. Unfortunately, our membership took place during our move so we did not get to play daily as I had hoped but we really appreciated what we did experience. Both children enjoyed it, even asking for time to play. The levels were appropriate scholastically and computer skills. My daughter loved that once I logged her on, she was able to play the games without assistance. As they progressed through a level, there was a reward of game time. This kept their focus on the program and encouraged them to stay with the academics longer. The second grade program offered a feature that I really liked. My son is learning his times tables and the program had them broken down by number so that each was reinforced.  There was a small test and he was rewarded for speed, as well as accuracy.Overall, my children enjoyed the program and I liked the format. We limit screen time and that combined with the changes in our life caused us to under-utilize its potential. To really maximize the subscription cost, regular use would be needed. (You can check out their pricing plans here.) I think that this program would be especially useful for home-schooling families or those looking for some fun tutorial back-up.
