What's Happening -- Costume Swap

Halloween is around the corner. Do you have costumes yet? We don't! Do you dread the expense and trouble required to turn your little angels into monsters for one night? (Though in my case, some days sees a little like the reverse!?!?) I do! Do you hate that so often, the costumes are worn once and then gather dust until they end up in the trash bin and eventually the land fill? Yep, me too.Well, here is an opportunity to save money, the Earth, and maybe even your sanity! The cool ladies over at LiveMom, Free Fun in Austin, and MomCom Austin have joined together with The Little Gym of Round Rock to host a FREE Halloween Costume Swap! Bring a costume to swap and your kiddo gets to play. Again, for the cheap seats, for free!So free play. Free costume. What gets better than that? Well, less waste. The swap is being held on National Costume Swap Day, which the organization Green Halloween founded three years ago in the hopes of reducing waste associated with Halloween. According to their website, “swapping the costumes of only half of the children who celebrate Halloween would reduce annual landfill waste by 6,250 tons, equivalent to the weight of 2,500 midsize cars.”Wow! Who knew all the wicked witches, superheroes, and princesses were adding up to "tons" of landfill? Not I. I bet I have your attention now! So here is the low-down:To attend the swap, parents must RSVP (go to LiveMom.com for details) and must bring only one (1) costume for each child who is with them at the swap. Attendees will get one (1) ticket per costume and will use the ticket to get one newtothem costume. There will be two (2) swap sessions, one at 3:00 p.m. and one at 4:30 p.m., but attendees are encouraged to arrive a little early as tickets will be given out in numerical order (first to arrive, first to pick a costume). The early bird doesn't just  get the worm, she gets the best costume!Afraid you might go and find nothing? Never fear. Any costumes not chosen by the end of the swap will be donated to Texas Baptist Children's Home. You'll be helping a worthwhile charity and lessening the landfill load! And do I have to say it again, your kids are playing for free! And while it won't get you extra tickets, attendees are welcome to bring additional costumes to donate. So clean out your closets and start off the Holiday season on a generous (and Green) foot!Sounds great, Traci! I'll be there!Whoa, there. Before you tear through last year's boxes and head out the door, remember you must RSVP! It's free but they do need to know you are coming! You can go directly to EventBrite or visit my friends at Free Fun in Austin or LiveMom to accept this super fun, super Green invitation. The Little Gym in Round Rock is at 3203 IH35 South, next to Best Buy, and can be reached at (512) 6874141.LiveMom, Free Fun in Austin and MomCom are momowned businesses working to connect parents and families in the greater Austin area through fun, knowledge and shared experience.
