I Have Outbox in My Inbox

So. I have been an Outbox customer for a week now... and so far, so good. First I get an email that looks like this... I then click and go to my personalized site... The site is very visually attractive and intuitive. The mail is displayed on all sides including any blank pages and/or backs of the envelopes. At this point, I have several options for the mail.  Each piece has a series of options underneath:

  • Add to a Folder -- the site provides a few but I was able to custom create my own, as well.
  • Add to To-Do Folder -- this is an especially good option for a bill that has a due date.
  • Toss -- this is for pieces of mail that neither a digital or hard copy is needed. The mail is then shredded and recycled. I also have the option to unsubscribe from these pieces if they are junk mail. Outbox will process the unsubscribe process for me -- yay!
  • Email --  this allows me to share a piece of mail. I have already done so -- sending a piece to my husband with questions.
  • Rotate -- this is a different look
  • Request -- this is for pieces that I want or need a hard copy. I have personally requested Christmas cards.

So I sort, and to-do, and I request. And then a couple of days later, I get this email. And that evening what was waiting on my porch but this...And in that envelope was all of my requested, so win! In fact, the only problem I have had is keeping my husband from going to the mailbox -- haha! Now a few friends and I have had questions. Most were security related. Obviously, someone has to open and scan our mail. Is it safe? The company assured me that they are insured and bonded against identity theft and there are several safeguards in place to limit the time each piece is in the hands of anyone. They have tried to make the process as anonymous as possible and are continuing to improve that side. With the holidays coming up, I asked about cash in envelopes. I was informed that they would actually scan the cash and it could be requested just like any other piece. This does feel a little weird I have to admit. At this time, the only safeguard I see on cash is that they are still small and feel very confident in their employees.Another question I had was what happens if I cancel or they are no longer in business. I was told that in either case, PDFs of all scanned and stored mail would be made available to me for my records. This was very relieving to me.I have only used Outbox for a short time but I am excited by the prospect of less paper in my life. I will continue to keep you posted on how things progress. If you have any questions, you would like me to proffer, please let me know and I shall pass it along.Austin friends, let me know if you want an Outbox in your inbox.
