Advent Calendar Day 18 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Another childhood favorite, I cannot allow a Christmas season to pass without seeing this one. I often watch it more than once. In fact, I use the phrase, "my heart grew three times today" all year round. To me, this story represents what matters about Christmas. It's not the songs or the packages or the movies, it's the gathering of loved ones. After all of the Grinch's shenanigans and the Who's wake up to find nothing, they come together without tears to raise their voice in song. The Grinch is surprised to find he has failed in his effort to steal Christmas.

But this... this sound wasn't sad. Why... this sound sounded glad. Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small, was singing, without *any* presents at all! He hadn't stopped Christmas from coming, it *came*! Somehow or other... it came just the same...It came without ribbons!... it came without tags!... it came without packages, boxes, or bags!

This film is about how anyone is capable of change. And the hope Christmas brings is a perfect catalyst for that change. Unfortunately, I do not feel this way about the Jim Carrey live-action remake. To me the simple beauty was lost in the name of Jim Carrey-ness. So save your time with the remake and watch the classic that's a classic for a reason.7 Days to Christmas...Click below to see my Advent Calendar. Grinch
