What's Happening -- Gourmet by Numbers Review and Giveaway
Gourmet by Numbers was kind enough to offer me a dinner for review and another for my readers. All of the opinions are mine -- it is my Universe after all.
Last week, I introduced you to Austin Entrepreneur and Momma Heather Amalaha. Realizing how hard it is for families to eat home-cooked meals from real ingredients in our busy world, she came up with a brilliant idea -- Gourmet by Numbers. And Heather was kind enough to let me try out a dinner.First, let me tell you this girl has style. Gourmet is not just a phrase -- look at the presentation. Every single ingredient comes individually wrapped and numbered (trust me that matters). And yes, those are brown eggs. That's fancy stuff around this house.A detailed preparation card comes with all the ingredients. Everything is explained in detail and ordered.
This is where those numbers come in. In fact, with the recipe I chose -- Baked Herb Chicken Fingers, Cheese Macaroni, and Swiss Chard -- there were two flour tubs. I hadn't noticed the numbers and almost dumped the wrong one. My daughter looks up and says "Mommy, that's number two. We are only on one." And yes, she was right. Now cooking doesn't come easily to me (as possibly evidenced by the above conversation) but my daughter loves it so I was happy she wanted to join me. Here she is dumping the contents of one baggie in the bowl.
It really is that simple. Everything comes pre-measured -- for non-cooks like me, this is huge. It made cooking from ingredients almost as easy as cooking from a box.Heather has rated each of the menus as Easy, Medium, and Hard. My option was a medium and it was slightly challenging to me -- believe me, this speaks far more to my skills than her offerings -- but I was helped by the specificity of the instruction card. For example, in the cheese sauce for the macaroni, she describes that its ready when its "just thick enough to coat the back of a spoon." I could understand that and it helped me immensely. So here's how I did. And here's how it came out.Not bad, right? And we enjoyed it. There were portions on the learning curve. I think I dipped the chicken in the egg a little too long and I threw the veggies in the pan too early and yet it was still edible. I think that says a lot for how well Gourmet by Numbers laid it all out. Even with a couple of mistakes (as a newbie cook), you can see the results. So if you are a busy Austin family and you want to eat at home but you want real food, I highly recommend Gourmet by Numbers. Even if you're new to cooking, a good dinner is in the bag - a bag brought you filled with everything you need to make it happen. And Heather is kind enough to offer one of my readers a chance to try out a dinner for themselves. I want you to have this opportunity not only to consider it as a customer but to support her Indiegogo campaign. And you know I like to make my giveaways easy, so here you go. Good luck!a Rafflecopter giveaway
