Best Friends

Today, Axis of Ineptitude asked me to speak of Best Friends.

This is probably the easiest prompt ever for me. 34 years ago I had a ray of light enter my life that has never left. Before High School and boyfriends; before college and careers; before marriages and births, deaths and losses, she was there. We listened to "Jessie's Girl" together on her FM radio and roller skated to Xanadu. Despite being built entirely differently, we wore matching prairie dresses and matching pick Candies high tops (not together, for the record). She tried to make my flat blonde hair flip into wings like hers and later I tried to help her tame her thick brunette hair into a bob. We stayed up late talking of dreams and visions of ourselves.Life has taken us to many different places and sometimes months have passed between actually seeing each other. Nonetheless, our friendship has not wavered. When my brother passed in 1995, she lived in Orlando yet she was in Houston the next day. She was the second call I received when wandering the streets of New York on 9/11 demanding that I "get home". I am the Godmother to her children and she to mine.I have been blessed with many friends over the years and all have shaped who I am but none like my very best friend, Anne. She was a gift from God for which I will say thank you every day.WyG4rB1402399373 Do you have a best friend?
