Behind the Wheel of a Buick But Not Behind the Times
Buick offered me a test drive and a lovely trip to Fredericksburg. All of the opinions are my own; it is my Uinverse, after all.
Living in Austin, I am blessed with a city life surrounded by beautiful hill country. That said, as a busy mom, I rarely take advantage of this opportunity. So when the folks at Buick asked if I would like to visit Fredericksburg and three local wineries, I was all in.Buick is quickly changing its image as your granddad's car with its newer sleek styling and a lot of bells and whistles, built-in 4G for a bell and a heated steering wheel for a whistle. Seriously... a heated steering wheel. This was not something I even imagined wanting or needing and now I long for it. When my hands began to tire a bit after driving a number of miles, the warmth relaxed them and therefore, relaxed me.We wound through the Hill Country, a line of Buicks in a caravan. I was lucky enough to drive the Enclave -- a crossover that makes a Mom car feel like anything but. It has a third row and storage yet it looks like this:I mean, what??? And the built in video and second sunroof are all within sight and reach of the front seat. It is savvy and stylish but not at the expense of the realities active parents face. Frankly, I am experiencing some serious withdrawal. But as awesome a family vehicle it was, there were no kids in this car. It was pure adult relaxation. We listened to the Sirius XM (no KidzBop on this trip!) as the car urged the curves. This car did NOT drive like the Buick I remember my grandmother having. It is seriously responsive with majorly quick pick-up. The drive is super smooth even on the uneven roads. It makes the perfect getaway car.And getaway, we did. Lest you worry that we were tackling those curves post winery, we were chauffeured after our first visit. I enjoyed my time as a passenger as much as I did as a driver. The folks at Buick could not have made me feel more like a VIP if there had been a red carpet and a challenge to "Break the Internet".Here I am with that beautiful vehicle...A giant thank you to Buick and the lovely wineries that hosted us -- William Chris Vineyards, Torre di Pietra, and Grape Creek Vineyard. I got away with a trip to the Hill Country and a lot of great miles in a very cool car. Can't say my Granddad wouldn't have wanted one but it certainly isn't my Grandad's car.
