What's Happening -- The One I Wrote for You
Did you ever a dream that didn't quite happen? My readers know I did. And my readers also know that I've learned that a happy life can be created despite these incomplete wishes. That's the premise of the new film "The One I Wrote for You".The movie (filmed in San Antonio -- yee-haw!) looks at Ben Cantor (a very handsome Cheyenne Jackson), a former singer turned barista. His dreams of being a singer/songwriter dwindled as the needs of being a husband and father grew. His wife (Christine Woods) and daughter Gracie (Avi Lake) know, however, that his heart still carries the dream. When an "American Idol" style show comes to San Antonio, Gracie enters his music behind his back. When he is picked to be a finalist, Ben is offered a second chance. But is it at the expense of his family? What dreams are worth revisiting? And what dreams are better left alone when life has brought you something different but no less valuable? That is the very question at the heart of this lovely film. This is not a flashy film but it is a film with a strong voice. It is a voice that spoke to me and my journey. Add to that, a strong cast including Kevin Pollak and Christopher Lloyd, and a good soundtrack, I definitely recommend it.Now, you might be saying, "okay Traci, I'm interested but I didn't get a DVD in the mail." No worries, my friends. "The One I wrote For you" opens in theaters this Friday. If you are in the Austin and San Antonio area especially, please check your local listings. You can check out the web site "The One I Wrote For You" for details and theater locations. And local friends, let's make this movie a success! Let's show Hollywood that central Texas is a darn good place to make movies! If you have ever had a dream that didn't seem compatible with the life you built, you really should see this. And come back and tell me about the dream and the choice you made.
