Friday Fragments #3 -- Birthday Edition
Welcome to the 3rd installment of Friday Fragments. This week was a busy one. We celebrated my grandmother's 90th birthday and the country's 239th. We were lucky enough to watch fireworks beachside and play with sparklers. Wonderful weekend.

Oh and I had a birthday. #44 to be exact. On Wednesday, I shared my daughter's gift to me -- a movie night. We saw Inside Out. If you haven't seen it, you should. It is a lovely look at emotions, relationships, and memories. My daughter told me of her gift with me the night before. Here is how the conversation went.Little Diva: Mommy, I want to tell you what your gift is.Me: What, baby?LD: I want to take you to see a movie... Inside Out!Me: That's great, baby. Thanks.Sonny-Bunny: Hey, Mom. Do you want to know what I'm giving you?Me: Sure, buddy, what?SB: Me! I'm your gift. I'm your greatest gift.Yep, my son gave me himself. But who could argue with his logic? My kids are my greatest gifts.

With birthdays I always get a little nostalgic. I am blessed to have had the same best friend for going on 35 years. We met in 1980 and created a friendship over matching Buster Brown suede platform shoes. Over the years, we've been to Rick Springfield, Wham, and Madonna concerts and sneaked drinks from our parent's bars. We have fallen in love and had our hearts broken. There have been deaths and divorces and graduations and weddings. Through good and bad, she has been there. Wednesday night, we celebrated my birthday along with her 16 yo daughter (my Goddaughter). I feel very fortunate that she is in my life.I also get very motivated for the future. I've been thinking about my mid-life (because I am now officially a middle-aged woman) and where I am going with the next half of my life. I am evaluating what I want to achieve and how I want to live. I don't yet know what that will look like but it has dominated my thoughts the last week.
