What's Happening - A Streetcar Named Desire
Most of you know that I come from an acting background and besides Shakespeare, there is no playwright I love more than Tennessee Williams. His poetic vision of decaying southern antebellum life was both gritty and tragic with a healthy sense of sardonic humor. And no play better sums that up than "A Streetcar Named Desire". The deeply loved, occasionally buffoon-ed classic tells what can can go wrong when a sister-in-law comes to stay uninvited, especially if that sister is Blanche. Deeply flawed and pretentious, she showers disapproval on her sister Stella's marital choice of Stanley. Most of you know that I come from an acting background and besides Shakespeare, there is no playwright I love more than Tennessee Williams. The dialogue spars between Blanche and Marlon are best experienced live as they are truly electrical.
