Friday Fragments #31

Friday Fragments with Star2Happy Friday! Somehow, some way, today is the last Friday in January. Time keeps on flowing into the future....

This week has been one of catching up with friends.Saturday, I had a wonderful girls day out. A few friends and I went on a wine tour through the Texas Hill Country. Yep, I was a wino. I have the glass to prove it.Texas, wine tour, wineIt was a bus tour we found on Groupon. On the ride back to Austin, we sang along to a fun soundtrack that ranged from "Sweet Caroline" to "Bohemian Rhapsody" to "Apple Bottom Jeans". I am sure that the wine had nothing to do with that. All in all, a fun day. I loved seeing my friends. I also loved seeing members of the other bus tours. One was an '80s theme. I admit to being amused by the 20 year old girls dressed in leg warmers and side warmers with their dates as Weird Al Jankovic and the like.

Tuesday and Wednesday, I had the opportunity to attend the Houston Auto Show. In the heart of Houston, I caught up with some of my favorite Austin bloggers. Blogging life is funny that way. I also saw friends from Dallas, and of course, Houston. I miss traveling but a wonderful side effect of slowing down has been seeing old friends.

Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the Challenger tragedy. I wrote about my feelings here. It was also the 6th anniversary of my Father-in-Law's passing. The day reminds me how quickly life changes. We must seize life and cherish those we love.

Looking forward to the upcoming SuperBowl, I am looking at commercials...Am I the only one that hates the "Halos" commercials? I don't understand the concept behind suggesting that children will become so addicted that they are dangerous. They show babies being duct-taped to the door, a terrified dad with scratches all over him loading the shopping basket, and a Godfather styled stuffed pony head showing up in the dad's bed. I usually have a pretty good sense of humor but even my daughter has pointed out they seem weird to her. I think I must be missing something.I do, however, enjoy the Geico "It's What You Do" campaign. I have mentioned my love for the "Final Countdown" microwave installment and the latest on has won my heart, as well. It centers on a James Bond-styled super agent fighting off multiple assailants on a rooftop. His phone rings and well, this happens... "Are you taking a Zuumba class?" LOVE it!Finally, they have started the teasers to the official SuperBowl ads. I love the commercials and often watch them more carefully than the game (side effect of growing up a Houstonian -- we don't have much experience with championship teams). It seems Snickers has another "You're not yourself" in the pipeline. It centers on a very non-Marilyn singing "Happy birthday, Mr. President." I can't wait to see who the silhouetted, gravel-throated stand-in is!!!
