It's American Diabetes Association Alert Day!

Did you know?

March 22nd is American Diabetes Association Alert Day.

My father fights Type II Diabetes so this subject is close to my heart. Did you know that 86 million American adults (more than 1 in 3) have prediabetes? PreDiabetes puts them at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, a serious health condition that can lead to heart attack and stroke. Nearly 90% don’t even know that they have it.But did you know that prediabetes can be reversed through weight loss, diet changes and increased physical activity? The first step to reversing the condition is to evaluate personal risk so that they can make these life-altering changes! That’s why the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have partnered with the Ad Council to launch the first national public service advertising (PSA) campaign about prediabetes. And that's why I sharing it with you today.diabetes, prediabetesWant to know your risk? Visit DoIHavePrediabetes.org. Take a quick online quiz to find out. Think you're too busy? I did, too! Let’s face it – we have all been that person, the one who says “it’s okay, I am fine. I will make that doctors appointment another day.”  There are millions of reasons why we don’t take time. Kids, jobs, watching eagle chicks on YouTube and sharing wine memes on Facebook... or maybe that's just me. Whatever. We are busy!Let's be honest, though. If it was your kid or your spouse or even a friend, you would want them to take the time. Remember, to someone else, you are that child, spouse, or friend. They want you to take the time!diabetes, prediabetes

I didn't know. I didn't know about prediabetes. I didn't know my risk.

My father has the disease means I need to stay aware and make sure I do know my risk. Because no one is excused from prediabetes, especially me!

Do you know where you stand?

Please consider spreading the word. I hate seeing my dad have to test his blood EVERY day, take injections, and overall worry about his health. You can avoid it as long as you are in the know!Go find out your risk. I am glad I did! Come back and tell me that you know where you stand!
