Be a Stroke Hero

We've all played the game. If I could have one super power, it would be...In the past, I've always said super speed.I'd love to be that X-Men guy who is so fast that everyone else is in slow-mo. Not for anything cool like winning the Olympics, but rather so I could do all the boring stuff in life and then slow down to enjoy the rest. Yeah, dream big, baby. Dream big.And maybe now I can. Instead of super speed, maybe I can save someone from the devastating results of a stroke.

Be a #Stroke Hero!

#strokehero, stroke, healthAn American dies every four minutes from a stroke. That is a staggering number. Changing that would truly be a super power.

Be ready to take action!

And it might not be leaping tall buildings in a single bound, but you can save lives by knowing F.A.S.T, the warning signs of stroke.  When you recognize a stroke and immediately call 9-1-1, the person has a greater chance of getting to an appropriate hospital quickly and being assessed for treatment options like a clot-busting drug or clot-removing device. How to spot a stroke F.A.S.T. (the warning signs):

  • F - Face Drooping - Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile.
  • A - Arm Weakness - Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
  • S - Speech Difficulty - Is speech slurred? Are they unable to speak, or are they hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence like: “The sky is blue.” Is the sentence repeated correctly?
  • T- Time to call 9-1-1 - If the person shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call 9-1-1 and get them to the hospital immediately.

My grandmother suffered a stroke last year and thanks to the F.A.S.T. actions of family, she is still around to celebrate her 91st birthday in July! Now that is way cooler than cleaning the house at hyper speed!#strokehero, healthTake the #StrokeHero quiz. It is fast, easy, and could save your life or the lives of people that you love.
