Sharing Kindness & Understanding Through Books

Bullying is rampant. We all have seen the stories of young people afraid of school or even their own phone for fear of a peer poking an insecurity or hurt. As a mother of a 14yo who has discovered Snapchat and a 10yo girl entering the awkward stage, bullying is high among the things keeping me up at night.

Fighting Bullying with Kindness and Caring

Recently, two books landed on my doorstep, Batty Betty and Kindness is the Key. Both focus on appreciating our differences and growing acceptance for others. Little Diva and I sat down to read them both and enjoyed each.children's books, books, #ilovetoread #bullying, bullying

I received a copy of each book for the purpose of this review. All opinions are mine. It is my Universe, after all.

Batty Betty by Kathryn Hast is about a clumsy, playful giant who lives life to the fullest but is mocked by a gang of chatty beavers. A browned banana named Eve also lives in fear of the judgmental crew. It takes a kindly tuba named Abel who is unafraid of others not singing his tune. Its a rhyming tale of bravery, confidence, and loyalty that ends with a bent horn but a bright and shiny friendship.bullying, booksLater, we read Kindness is Key by Alexis Bloomer. This one points out the many reasons we might feel different or alone while reminding us that kindness is always an option. Kindness is not bullying, standing up for those being bullied, and being kind with ourselves. Celebrating our unique qualities in those we come across and allowing them to celebrate us builds a path to a better world.books, kindnessI recommend both books to stimulate important conversation between you and your young one, increasing their comfort with differences and strengthening their resolve to fight bullying.

***A big thank you to LuJu Books and Archway Books for encouraging my daughter to be brave and kind.
