The Silly Business of Being a Mom

Being a parent, in my case being a mom, is a lot of hard work. I think that is something that we can all agree on even in this divided time. It can feel like a job at times. A job filled with lists, deadlines, and other must do items. Al these jobs can interfere with seeing the purpose of my position - to raise healthy, happy children. This past weekend, I was tired and running between the third party we were hosting in a week, in addition to a fall festival, sports, and cheer. I thought I was rocking it and checking off boxes right and left. You know, super mom stuff. Then my daughter surprised me with a Silly String fight. Part of me wanted to scream, "NO! I just got this floor clean.' Fortunately, however, another part yelled louder. Instead of taking care of business, I took another can of Silly String and got into the game. Which resulted in a mess and this...being silly, having fun, #theygrowupsofastLook at that smile! It was so wonderful that I wanted to a picture before cleaning up and those who know me know that is highly unusual.

Being Silly May Be My Most Important Job

Life involves management and my job involves a lot of controlling chaos but, sometimes it also should involve a little impulsivity and fun. Maybe even a bit of uncontrolled chaos. Sometimes I forget that. I'm glad that a little can of Silly String and a big smile reminded me of my real job; that of being a mother rather than Home CEO. All too soon, these moments will be gone forever.
