Swing Into Jungal Book at the ZACH

With Little Diva homeschooling this year, I am constantly looking for opportunities to expand her world outside the home. In other words, kicking the home out of homeschooling. Theatre is one of the ways we can push out the walls and visit cultures far beyond Texas. And "Jungal Book" at ZACH Theatre took us to the other side of the globe!

Austin, events, family

We were offered tickets to see Jungal Book for the purpose of this review.
All opinions are mine. It is my Universe, after all.

Jungal Book is an adaptation of the beloved Kipling classic, Jungle Book. But in this case, Human-cub, is a little girl learning not only the ways of the jungle but the rules by which all living creatures should live. Loyalty, honesty, and being true to oneself are all hard-won lessons by this castaway.

The show is colorful with bright sets and a delightful use of shadow in the set. There are puppets used from all angles taking full advantage of the Zach's Kleberg thrust space. It solidly sets the audience within the jungle and brings the children along with Human-cub'a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Join the Jungal fun

At the end, the audience is further encouraged to join the jungle by a sing-a-long led by the one and only Baloo, friend of and mentor all the jungle animals including our protagonist, Human-cub. With his strong words and soft heart, he is the moral conscience of the jungle and the play.

I highly recommend the play for school age children. And if you are homeschooling like we, keep your program, there are facts, coloring pages, and learning activities inside.

A big thank you to the Zach for including my family and I in this delightful experience.
