A Tale of 3 Dresses

Have you ever come home excitedly with a purchase you love only to find you already have that item in your closet? I have! It’s not uncommon, at all. Most of us do it and it’s a good news, bad news situation. Let’s start with the bad news.

Spending Your Money on Repeat

As you will see in my tale of blue dresses, I spent money over and OVER for basically the same dress.

It would be funnier if the blue dress were the only time I made this mistake. If you take note while watching the video, there are three black/navy gingham shirts hanging to my left. In case you are wondering, “yes”. There are more of these “collections” in my closet.

Now for the good news…

If you are buying the same things, these are the best breadcrumbs to your personal style. Those are colors, cuts, and styles that spark something in you. That is wonderful! The trick is to ensure you don’t already have it in your closet. And, if you do? SCORE!!!!

Shop your closet first so you don’t end up with duplicates!

Overbuying is so easy; especially with online shopping. I am EXTRA guilty here. Take a moment to get up from the laptop (or put down your phone), walk over to your closet, and make sure you aren’t buying a double. I am not a MINIMALIST and I am not trying to tell you that you can’t buy clothes - I love, Love, LOVE clothes - I am just about buying them smarter.

Learn from my mistakes so you can get the wardrobe of your dreams. Thrift what you can. Be judicious with your new, especially fast-fashion, purchases. Mostly, have fun!!!

Do you have closet repeats?
