Honoring a Hero…

…for more than just one day.

Much has happened in the past year, that has brought my understanding of racial justice, or the lack of it, to a deeply different place since I celebrated this holiday last year. It is not that I was ignorant of large issues that affected my brothers and sisters of color. Instead, this year taught me how much I still had to learn about the day to day struggles of my friends

In learning, I now have a responsibility. I care for my friends. I care for my country. I care for justice. Therefore, I cannot turn a falsely blinded eye to the false promises that those friends walk in every day.

Silent No More

My eyes have been opened and with that, so has my heart. I cannot address this new knowledge with anger. Only love will meet the need. Only love will meet the moment.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thank you, Dr. King, for sharing your light. Thank you to my friends for sharing your truth.

May I honor your legacy with my light.
