Work + Mind Connection

Lately, I have really been thinking about performing at my peak. I have shared how I struggle with health issues. What is it to be in the zone? And how do I keep the zone from draining me?

How do I find that sweet spot where I’m feeling top-notch mentally and crushing it. Where is that magical intersection?

It is my Universe, after all.

It is All Connected

Here’s a good visualization:

Imagine career and mental health as two buddies holding hands. If one is happy, the other is more likely to be, too. But if the one trips on a shoelace or gets stuck in a puddle, the other probably goes down, too. It’s a two-way street, and both companions need to be in good shape to keep things running smoothly.

I’m Okay, You’re Okay

We have all had those days when we’re just not feeling “it”. When we’re dragging our feet or snapping at everyone for no real reason? Those might be signs that our mental tank is running low.

The same as when the phone battery hits 10% - it’s time for a recharge! And just like the phone, sometimes we need to plug in. Fill our emotional and mental batteries with some self-care or even a little moment to breathe.

Mix Things Up

Sometimes, it takes more than that. Sometimes, we need a change of scenery or position. Goodness knows I have reinvented myself more than once. If you find yourself hating your job, find a second act. I think I must be Shakespearean because I am in my 5th act.

It can be, however, you just need to take your career onto another path. For example, if you are a nurse, but really want to explore and work with many different people in different places, then becoming a travel nurse might be a way to serve your passions and your calling. Changing up your view and meeting new faces can give your brain the refresh it needs. And who knows? You might find a new home base for the next act.

Work Time vs. Me Time

I won’t EVEN with the work-life balance. The truth is that no matter how much we may love your job, we still need to clock out. Remember, there’s time for work and time for, well… not work. This is especially hard if you work from home. I am trying to stop checking emails at a set time. Have you ever set one day a week where it’s all about you? I keep saying I will in an attempt to keep brain and mood in check. Because, let’s face it, nobody’s a superhero 24/7, and even the busiest bees need a moment to rest their wings.

Not All About the Benjamins

Don’t get me wrong, We all want and NEED to get paid. In the world of Boss Babe culture, however, getting that next rung can seem all important. I’ve learned, however, that loving what I do is a real central core of my happiness and feelings of success. I am always saying to live your next act and #shinebrightly. Thinking about it practically, loving what you do means you’re more likely to be a superstar at it. So, win-win. After all, what’s the point of a bigger office or a heftier paycheck if we’re not jumping out of bed excited for the day?

Passion and purpose often lead to success, not just chasing the next big thing.

Take a mental break every now and again

Real Talk

Having friends at work or even outside of work can be like having a safety net. Chat with your co-workers, share a laugh, and maybe even get a mentor. I have been blessed with several and currently working with one now. And when things get tough, don’t bottle it up.

Let someone know.

I am always surprised by how much a simple chat can lift my spirits. Sharing feelings, highs and lows, make our journeys smoother. After all, life’s rollercoasters are always better when someone screaming (or laughing) alongside!

Wrapping Up

Back to our metaphor: think of you mood and job success as those two friends. When they’re both in sync, everything feels right, and the wins come easy. But if one’s having an off day, it might lean on the other for a bit of support. It’s all about balance and making sure both are feeling their best.

How do you keep work and mind in check? Do you have a trick for keeping both friends up and walking?
