A Revolution of Faith
I am a woman of faith. It is at the heart of who I am and how I live my life. It buoys me through all the hard days and amplifies every good day.
In my many days, I can’t say that I have had a crisis of faith. I have, however, had more than one crisis with religion. I have left churches that made me feel less than, unwelcome or the same for people I love. It didn’t reflect the spirit of Jesus that I knew and loved; the Jesus of “judge not, lest you be judged”.
Have you had a crisis of faith?
I know I am not alone in this. There is a lot of judgment and hurt out there. It can feel like we are so far apart and too often the name used to divide us is one that was meant to bring us together.

The film, “Jesus Revolution”, takes place across a year in an equally discordant time - the beginning of the 1970s. The Vietnam War is raging, the country is still mourning the loss of many of its icons struck down by assassination, and the generation divide seems deeper than ever as the hippie movement was in full flourish.
Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer) is at the helm of a dying church and like most of his peers, he is not only confused by hippies, he is disgusted by them. In an off-handed remark to his daughter, his says that unless God brings him a hippie, he’ll never understand them. Well, yes, it’s a movie, but…. God works in a mysterious ways.
What would Jesus look like in the 70s? How about now?
Enter a hippie that looks and sounds a lot like Jesus, Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie). He touches Pastor Chuck’s heart by sharing the universal truth that all of us are searching for a higher love and acceptance. By opening his eyes to the Hippies’ larger calling, Lonnie forges a unique bond with the pastor that will change his church and many for some time to come.
This movie is three hours but it is worth it. I wasn’t sure what I would be getting, I will be honest. Would it be a period film? Would it be preachy?
It’s period, but it feels so now. It’s about a specific church but it feels fresh and real and universal, even to this Catholic. It’s honest about their problems. We need more of this non-judgmental faith. I laughed at moments, but I cried and it surprised me.

I highly recommend, “Jesus Revolution”. I have purposely been quiet about the story because, as an actress, I always want you to be able to enjoy the film. And I think the film stands well as a film, your feelings on faith aside. On that front, it will be available on digital and DVD April 25th.
