Yesterday I Was the Mom I Want to Be

Last week, I shared  a really bad day of parenting so I thought I'd share a really good day of parenting. Yesterday for Valentine's Day, we had family night.We made pizzas.Of which they were very proud.They were supposed to be heart shaped but instead, well... you can see for yourself.My daughter decided to make a "picture frame" (the one on the right) and my son made something out of a video game. Heart-shaped or not, they tasted goo.We also made cupcakes. And for those of you who know I have struggled with allowing messes, here was the delightful aftermath...But kids this happy makes it all worthwhile!I am still cleaning up food coloring and sprinkles (and may be for days...) but it is moments like this that remind me that while parenting can be hard, it can also be completely blissful. These moments may not come every day but they are the touchstones that keep me going as a Mommy. They also remind me that while kids need structure, they also need to have space to create and be messy. That doesn't always come easily to me but I am working on it. Because that is the Mother I Want to Be.I hooked up again with the Sunday Parenting Party -- thanks again to The Golden Gleam, Dirt and Boogers, One Perfect Day, and Taming the Goblin for hosting.

and then, she {snapped}
