Friday Fragments #11 -- Back to School
We are back at school and Wow!Routine has begun but the battle over chaos has not been won. Oh look at that, I'm a poet and I didn't know it.Here is the first day photo (in case you didn't see it on Wordless Wednesday):I have started allowing my son to bike to school -- pray for me people! I am learning to trust that he will make good choices and SAFE choices. This is a learning and growing process for both of us. Each day I gulp, say a prayer, and kiss him good-bye. Each day, I also find his bike among the racks. And then, each day I say a thank you and breathe a little easier (at least until after school, that is).My daughter is adjusting to first grade. She is not a fan of homework but she is a fan of her teacher. She got lost coming out to pick-up on Wednesday which caused a few tears on her part and a few heart flutters on my part but we both survived.I guess we are all adjusting to back-to-school and growing up. The funny thing is that they adjust faster than I do!Finally, along the lines of back-to-school someone needs to send Miley Cyrus back. I usually don't write about pop culture but I did feel compelled to write an open letter to the lady of twerk. Here's a little excerpt:
Have enough respect for yourself and those who gave you this precious position and use it to empower. Do you have to? No, you don’t. But should you? Yes. A sign of being an adult rather than an over-18 child, is to make choices that serve more than your own desires. Did you blow up twitter? Yes. Did you make any one’s life better? No. Likely, not even your own.
