Friday Fragments #18 - Christmas Frags
So it is the last Friday before Christmas. It is the last day the kids are in school before Christmas. It is... aack!We have been a sick family for the last week and a half and of the last nine school days, I have had one or both children home five... yes, FIVE! Five days in the two weeks leading up to the holidays. So you can imagine how fragmented my house looks. And my mind is not much better. So here we go...So, we have had a funny little elf named Jeffrey visiting us this year and I thought I'd share one last glimpse at his Elf on the Shelf antics.
He is still playing and has a few days more to keep us looking!
Okay, I have a rant! One of my favorite parts of Christmas for me is listening to Christmas music. The day after Thanksgiving through Christmas night, my radio is tuned to carols. And my daughter and I sing along a lot. We laugh and sing happily a LOT to "Rudolph" and "Last Christmas". And then, the song comes on and destroys all of that happiness. Yes, "that song". ..The Christmas Shoes song. I hate, Hate, HATE this song. Now, I know that there are Christmas Shoe song lovers out there but you need to explain to me why. Nothing knocks me out of the Christmas Spirit more than listening a poverty-stricken boy trying to buy shoes for his dying mother. I wrote about it last year but now I have even more to hate it!
Now that most of my Christmas music time is with my children, I cannot get that song turned off quickly enough. In fact, when I turned it off, my daughter asked why. I told her I didn't like the song. She asked why. And kept asking why but I really didn't want to talk about a mom dying with my 6 year old. Finally, I just said I didn't want to talk about it. To which she responded "Sheesh!" Yep. That pretty much killed the happy mommy-daughter moment!
Don't know the song? Or you know it and feel the need to punish your self anyway? Well, here's a link. Enjoy... or not.
Now have you seen the new Target Commercials? "That's my kind of holiday" ones? Oh my Goodness! It would seem that buying and wrapping gifts is not enough. One has a teenager opening gifts that look like a vacuum cleaner and an infant car seat. She then happily discovers they are a tablet and headphones. What the what? Yep! I have plenty of time to wrap empty boxes and shape them into other gifts. Another one has several children racing into a room to find no gifts under the tree. They then look up to find all of their gifts hanging from helium balloons. Um, yeah... has anyone told Target that there is a Helium shortage? And a Mommy time shortage? Just another thing to add to the "mommy fail list!
Here's one if you want a peek:
Now here's a series of commercials that I love. Have you seen the Sprint commercials starring James Earl Jones and Malcolm McDowell. The two men are dressed in tuxes and give VERY dramatic readings. It started with friend requests on Facebook but the latest has them reading a text conversation between two 15 year old girls -- Lizzy and Kim. SOOOOOOO funny! Oh, I mean Totes McGotes!
I'll leave you with a laugh...
That's my Christmas Friday Frags, check out others at Half Past Kissin' Time. Mrs. 4444s is kind enough to host us at her place every week. Happy holidays!
