Come Play in May -- If I Were Boy

May BannerToday's prompt was so well timed as I shared a funny conversation I had with my daughter about the innate unfairness about wearing a shirt. She is a savvy girl and when she looks at her skinny brother running around in a bathing suit with no shirt on and then looks at herself, she sees that there is no difference. Read it here if you want a giggle. Ah, the wisdom of children. Now that I have had two children and nursed both, I am frankly not interested in righting this mighty wrong. But there are a couple of things I'd do if I were a boy.

  1. I would enjoy relieving myself standing. I think this is a real win for men, especially when camping or in the cold.
  2. I would appreciate the ability to get ready in less than ten minutes.
  3. Not wearing a bra would be a pretty good bonus.

I really like being a girl, however. I like dresses and I like makeup. Some days I wish I had the above but not most days. Now I would like equal pay for equal work. Yeah, I'd like that. But there are things, I still wouldn't do.

  1. I would not grab my crotch in public. This is especially true in tight baseball pants.
  2. I would not spit. Double that I would not open my car door and spit out while waiting at a traffic light.

I also would not feel entitled to anything more than my female counterparts. I would fight equally for the rights of women.Either way, I hope I would be doing my best to be the person I can be. I would love my children. I would be involved in their lives. I would try to make the world better whether a girl or boy. When I was a teen, one of my favorite songs was "Boy" by Book of Love. If you've never heard it, here's a look.Would you like to be the other gender? Even for a day?Come play around with it and share it with us.
