A Truly Scary Halloween

Scary Halloween Wonder where I've been? Probably not, but I like to believe that you did. I like to imagine that my absence leaves a hole in your life that chills your heart. When you hear about the last two weeks, you may feel inclined to leave me in my sweet, deluded ignorance. But I digress. Whether you have or have not had a hole in your heart filled only by me, I have been absent. Absent from this blog and absent from just about my whole life. Basically October or at least the last two weeks were a horror show minus the hideous, if generically named, villain.  Instead of Freddy, Michael, and Jason, we had an injury, illness, and a root canal. And did I mention we were moving? Uh... yeah.So where to start? Over the last two weeks, while packing up up a house my husband and I each got a cold. I got a root canal -- a very painful root canal. My son decided to go parkour and jumped from the top step to the midpoint landing turning his ankle. We had to visit an urgent care clinic and get x-rays. On the positive side, it was only a sprain but for the last week in our two story home, he was on crutches; a two story house filled with boxes. My daughter developed a cough. But not just any cough; she developed a cough that was so bad that the doctor decided to run a pertussis test. While she is immunized, it is going around and they have to be extra careful right now. If you have never dealt with a pertussis test, the child is immediately put on antibiotics and quarantined. Yes, Little Diva was quarantined the day before Halloween. So now after staying up to 5:00 am cleaning out my house before the deadline, I spent Halloween with a 7 year old who was home from school and unable to attend any of the three parties she was invited to or trick or treat. She may or may not have had moments reflective of the previously mentioned monsters. But it didn't end there. On Halloween night, I got bit by something. I didn't see it but based on how my hand swelled to the size of a baseball, I think it was a creature worthy of Vincent Price.  And to bring it all together with an orange and black bow, my cold morphed into a full-grown infection complete with a 101 fever. I was bed bound the whole weekend. So I think you can see why I might have disappeared. But I am back. I am hoping that I have done due penance to whatever sacred cow I must have eaten at McDonalds as a burger. So that was my Halloween. How was yours?
