Eating After 7 PM - Unlearning What I Know

For some time, I have been trying to improve my family’s diet. And if you are imagining Yoda saying, “do or do not, there is no try”, well that pretty much expresses where we stand. I have chronic health issues, as many of you know, that has already affected my energy. Add that to what is going on in the world, and I am ready to seriously begin my Jedi training for better eating.

While I am unable to hop on an X-wing and visit our favorite little green teacher, I did get an advance copy of Always Eat After 7 PM by Joel Marion. And while it sounds like a diet book, it is really a lifestyle book set to increase energy and simply feel my best. Weight loss was not my goal (though it certainly can be a part of your journey) but finding my path to food as fuel is of prime importance. Proper eating can help balance hormones and provide better sleep, as well. Those words sing to this 48-year-old.

Unlearning What I Thought I Knew

Over the next month, I will be sharing what I’m learning and frankly -- unlearning. Let’s start with the title. We’re not supposed to eat at night, right?!? I mean, even I know that. (Probably gleaned from an old Oprah episode or something.) And as I learn, I’ll be sharing with you how it goes. It will start with a 14-day Acceleration Phase which is a kick start to get that energy going. After that, I’ll be sharing the Main Phase to keep those good vibes going.

One of the myths Marion addresses is “Late-Night Eating Interferes with Digestion”. This was as surprising as the title. My mom told me that. Morning talk shows have told me that. Heck! My son’s pediatrician told me that. But evidently, research does not say that. In fact, sleep may be an optimum time for digestion. Yep, that is absolutely the opposite of what I knew. Or thought I knew.

Having two teens and our own private zoo, getting my get-up-and-go back is at the top of my health goals. I hope you will follow along and share your health goals.
